Collection: Channapatna – Karnataka

Turned on the lathe, finished with care.

Channapatna is a woodcraft shaped through movement—blocks of ivory wood are rotated on a lathe while artisans work tools against the surface, forming smooth, balanced shapes.

The colour comes not from paint, but from layers of natural lacquer and vegetable dyes, applied while the wood is still turning. The heat from friction helps the colour settle into the surface, giving it that soft, lasting sheen.

Known for its toys, bangles, and everyday objects, the craft has been practiced for over two centuries, with techniques passed down through families. Everything is made using non-toxic materials, keeping it safe as well as sustainable.

Simple in form, precise in making, and rooted in everyday use.
