Tarkashi is an inlay technique where fine brass or copper wires are set into hand-carved grooves in Sheesham wood. The design begins with careful carving—often floral or geometric—before each wire is pressed in and the surface is smoothed to a seamless finish.

The craft traces back to Mainpuri and continues in Rajasthan, carried forward by artisans who rely on control, patience, and a steady eye.

Used across boxes, trays, and furniture, the work brings together strength and detail—sometimes finished with a light lacquer that deepens its sheen.

Subtle at first glance, but rich in the time it holds.
